Keep your diet when you are on holiday

Most people prefer all inclusive holidays because they don’t want to have to think about finance whilst enjoying their holiday. It is advisable to book it in advance, pay for everything and take a little cash with you to make your holiday as stress-free as possible. You may be able to find some very good deals all over the world. However, the main mistake people often make during all inclusive holidays is eating and drink firstly much more than they need to and secondly much more than you usually would when at home.

If you are on a strike diet or are just one of those people who spends time taking care of themselves and watching their weight, don’t fall into this very common and not to mention very easy mistake.  Be sure to watch what you both eat and drink during your holiday and don’t get enticed by the all inclusive aspects. Just because it is there, it doesn’t mean you have to eat it. There is no point getting in shape for the summer by being good all winter to just throw it all away at the first opportunity. It will become a vicious cycle. Moreover, if you do some activities during your holiday like playing tennis, swimming, using the gym or going for a run it will help you stay in shape. The key is being active enough to burn the calories which you get by eating. At the end of the day, it’s a balance which you must control. Even if you are on holiday, you could find 30 minutes to go for a run or take part in an instructional class!

Keeping your healthy diet can sometimes save money!

  1. Drink water. It is a healthier and cheaper option. Drink 1 liter for every 1000 calories. Remember that every place that serves alcohol has to provide tap water for free. So order tap water. If you do not trust the quality, carry your own bottle with you.
  2. Don’t be greedy, learn to stop eating  when you feel satisfied
  3. Take your own food to work, which will save you some money and you will know what is inside it.
  4. Do not avoid eating different fruits and vegetables to get different vitamins. Vitamin A is very important for healthy looking skin; antioxidant content fruits, strawberry, blueberry, plums and carrots have lots of Vitamin A in it. Vitamin D is essential to keep your immune system healthy and strengthen your bones. Keep in mind that sun light is a source of vitamin D, but you need to get direct light from the sun itself. Therefore, even if you are at home, make sure that the blinds and windows are open to ensure you are getting the direct light you need. Vitamin C is very essential to protect your body against illnesses and keep your overall health up. Deficiencies of different vitamins can lead to some problems on your body. If you think you don’t get enough vitamins for some reason, use multivitamin tables.  They don’t cost a lot and its better to get the vitamins from source, its better than nothing!

Eating Out and Keeping Your Diet in Check

It is sometimes difficult to eat out with friends and family when you are on a diet. You have to know your limits, go for healthy choices, and watch the amount of the alcohol you consume as it has lots of calories in it. Most restaurants will offer salads or grilled chicken or fish with boiled or steamed vegetables. For example, Nando`s offers  delicious grilled chicken which is a very tasty and healthy option for you.

Be aware of the dressings and the sauces restaurants use. Even if you order just a salad, the dressing only might increase the number of calories considerably. Try to avoid carbohydrates and instead opt for proteins.  Do not go out to a restaurant if you are very hungry. Tip – eat an apple before you arrive or order a salad first! Eat slowly; enjoy having a conversation with your friends. Do not order anything fried.  If you are applying a special kind of diet, for example, eating only one kind of specific food, remember to check it with the restaurant to see whether they offer it. Visit their website or give them a call beforehand to be sure. If they do not, you might want to ask them whether it would be possible to bring your own ingredients, then they can still charge you for their service. Many places offer this particularly personalized service. For example, I have visited a number of hotels where this option was available. You could even order a dessert at the end of your meal, of course something healthy like yogurt with fruit, a bit of ice-cream with lots of fruit. Remember to drink lots of water whilst eating and allow yourself a maximum of one portion of alcohol. If you eat or drink something more than you should do, make sure you work out more than you normally do. If you are on vacation at a yoga retreat for example, partake in an extra class or practice a little longer or if you go for a run to exercise, make sure you go one day more to burn the extra calories or run a little longer. Don’t skip the meals thinking that you will eat out later on. You will inevitably end up eating more would you believe. Control your portions; try to stop eating as soon as you feel satisfied. If there is a lot left over, ask if it can be packed for you to take home with you. Just think, you won’t need to think about lunch the next day.
